This morning at about 9:10 there was a Long-tailed Duck with Greater
Scaup about a half mile north of Pinole's Bayfront Park, seen from
Amtrak's Capitol Corridor train. The bird was with a small flock of
Greater Scaup and was quite close to shore. There was some track work
going on so the train slowed down quite a bit giving me a nice look.
(This is a new species for my train commute list, which is now
nearing 160 species.) There appeared to be a street named Santa Fe
that approached the tracks near the location of the Long-tailed Duck.
A quick check of Google Maps suggests that it should be accessible
walking north along the waterfront from the corner of Railroad Ave.
and Santa Fe in Hercules. Earlier on the same trip, there was a drake
Eurasian Wigeon in the Suisun Marshes at around 8:30 -- only the
second time I've seen one from the train.
