I've been hesitant to post this sighting, but after I read the post by Mr. Roethe, I feel compelled to mention it. While waiting for a customer, I was meandering around the pond in Montclair. I saw a Ruby-crowned Kinglet with the biggest brightest crown I've ever seen, attempting to chase away a Golden-crowned Kinglet which was a first for me. Their crowns were so bright, it looked like 2 Christmas lights doing battle. The show only lasted for half a minute, but was spectacular. I thought the Golden crowned was a rarity around here, and should be mentioned for the upcoming bird count.

    Happy Holidays and Great birding,
