Earlier this year, I spotted two Loggerhead Shrikes hanging out along
the fence surrounding 2 ponds in the Lime ridge open space area.
These ponds are in the Mt. Diablo CBC circle. These two ponds are
accessed by taking Treat Blvd. from 680 and turning right (south)
onto Navaronne. (Navarrone is just past a large creek--"Walnut
Creek") Drive to the end of Navaronne and take the trail up the
gully. Check out the two ponds, one is 150 yards up stream and the
2nd is another 200 yards further. The 2nd pond was the most popular
roost for these shrikes. I haven't checked these ponds in the last
few months but they attract some interesting birds.
