There has been an impressive number of shorebirds roosting at high tide on
the decaying dock behind the Golden Gate Fields track these past few weeks.
This spot is at the bottom of the hill, a few hundred yards south of the
Albany Beach. Today I went out with my camera and saw lots of Black-bellied
plovers, Western sandpipers, and dowitchers, and on a rocky spit a few yards
north of this spot were some Black turnstones.
My most interesting find, tucked in amongst the sandpipers on the broken
dock, was a nicely plumaged Surfbird.
