[EBB Sightings] Hooded Merganser / Barrow's Goldeneye hybrid at Lake Merritt, Oakland

Today at Lake Merritt, I found the male hybrid Hooded Merganser /
Barrow's Goldeneye (nobody has come up with a better idea of
parentage).

The bird was, as in former years, feeding near the entrance/exit to
Lake Merritt (Lakeshore & 12th), in a mixed flock of Goldeneye.  Still
eating clams with his skinny bill.

If we can learn from history, the best time to find this bird is when
water is flowing into Lake Merritt.  The strongest flows are when the
tide is high on the estuary, about 40 minutes after posted times for
the Golden Gate.
