I checked out the pond at Union City's city offices again on Friday. (Alvarado Niles Blvd. across from Logan High School) The only Hooded Merganser present during my 1 hour near lunch was an immature. I don't know if the pair & the other immature had moved on or not. The count of Common Mergansers had grown to 13, including one male in breeding plumage. Also present on the pond was an immature male Wood Duck, who was amazingly tolerant of my photographing him. I took a few shots just 25 feet from him. Great variety in this little pond. (Last year there were scores of Buffleheads & Am. Wigeons along w/ other waterfowl all winter.)
