I've just noticed a flock of about 20 waxwings sitting - silently - in a
neighbor's leafless plum while a varied thrush and a golden-crowned
sparrow call nearby. Usually I'm alerted to the waxwings by their high,
thin calls, but not today. Within sight of the plum tree, the local
gang of six or seven robins is feeding on our holly berries; I suspect
the waxwings will move in once the robins are gone.
