    Birders:

As a belated follow-up to my earlier attempt to respond to Phila
    Rogers's question of a few weeks ago . . .

I finally found my stash of checklists, "List of the Birds of the
Berkeley Hills," issued by the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, UC
Berkeley, 1984. The List says, "The area includes the campus of the
University of California in Berkeley, the adjoining western slopes of
the Berkeley Hills and Wildcat Canyon in Tilden Regional Park." So it
wasn't meant to extend as far east as Inspiration Point, the location
that spurred Phil's question about the status Canyon Wren. Still . . .
    .
MVZ's checklist does not list Canyon Wren at all, even in its "Partial
List of Occasional Visitants." As mentioned, I had one at my house
above Lake Anza (apparently within the limits of the checklist) on Sept
    8, 1997.

Hunting around for the MVZ checklists had the additional benefit of
reminding me of two charming, older articles by Amelia Sanborn Allen,
in which she describes the birds encountered at her home in lower
Strawberry Canyon. What a bygone time . . . California Thrashers
visiting her platform feeder. Check them out:
