    I had always thought coots were winter birds around here. All the coots 
    at Berkeley's Aquatic Park leave for the summer (except for an 
    occasional straggler).
    
    And I know this isn't an east bay sighting. But it's too good to not 
    share. There is a pair of american coots with tiny (chicks?) 
    (cootlings?) on the small pond that's a short way down the trail to 
    Abbot's lagoon in Point Reyes.
    
    I never though coots were cute. But these babies are! They have red 
    heads, something else I didn't know.
    
    I suppose these coots migrated here from somewhere while our winter 
    coots migrated somewhere else?
