Today and yesterday about this time this very distictive bird has been below
our feeder. I spent alot of time trying to identify it yesterday but was
unable to. Today he happened to be on the ground and a house sparrow was at
the feeder. He is about one third less the size of the sparrow so i was
looking at the sparrow in my sibleys guide and there he was on the next
page. The size, the beak and the color all match except his chest looked
black and white, very distintive. I'm about a half mile east of the new park
    here. gina wheat, Crockett Ca
