The Northern Parula was easily found at 10.30 this morning, singing
continuously on both sides of Jewel Lake both before and across the
spillway. The song carries well around the lake and has a
ventriloquist-effect. I only managed one good look, when it dropped
from the high branches to mid-tree level. It was still singing when
I returned in early afternoon. Thanks Phila and Emily for reporting
    this bird!

    Other birds:

A Winter Wren sang briefly this morning at Jewel Lake.

About 100 yards along the main trail past the spillway bridge was a
Spotted Towhee, hardly unusual, but this one was in possession of two
songs, the familiar harsh buzz, plus another trill of equal duration
that is much more "tin" sounding.

The Olive-sided Flycatcher has returned to his annual spot at the
highest point of the Loop Road Trail, which is the trail that ascends
slowly above the bathrooms from Jewel Lake. I did NOT find a Yellow
Warbler along that trail today, but it is present most years at the
first trail that intersects on the left where there is a small creek.
There is an unusual singing warbler nearby that I could not place, so
please help me if you run across it.

    Orange-crowned Warbler, Wilson's Warbler, Black-headed Grosbeak,
Pacific-slope Flycatcher, Swainson's Thrush, and Warbling Vireo all
    prominent today.
