    Dear Birders:

I'm adding my voice to the 'chorus' of emails regarding the late presence of
golden-crowned sparrows. As of this morning I have at least 6 GCs at my
feeder, all in breeding plumage and even livelier than ever. I've been
keeping feeder records for about 30 years and this is the latest date by a
week of their continued presence. Occasionally I have recorded a single bird
lingering beyond the 15th by a day or two.

Does the cold wet spring which still has us in its chilly, gray grip offer a
possible explanation -- even though length-of-day appears to be the
    determinate of migratory patterns?

That roving band of band-tailed pigeons descended on my deck this morning --
a pulsing solid mass of steel-gray feathers that gave new meaning to the
    word 'density.'

    Phila Rogers
