I'm not sure how interesting it is for CC county, but on our last four
walks in Wildcat Canyon Park, my wife and I have seen a Great-Horned
Owl -- we haven't been able to locate a nest (if there is one), but it
has flown into or out of the eucalyptus trees on two of those
    occasions.

It resides in a copse of mixed trees (eucalyptus, some palms, some
pines, etc.) and dead snags on the Belgum trail (the paved left hand
junction off the main paved path toward Tilden from the parking lot).
Go up the paved hill, through the cattle gate, continue left at the Y
near the sign for the old Belgum Grande Vista Santitarium and up the
hill a short bit. It likes to hang out on a dead tree limb to the
east, past the line of eucalyptus trees. Make sure you're wearing
either hiking boots or shoes you don't mind getting muddy -- after all
this rain, it's mighty sloppy up there!

On the main (paved) path, there's a pair of red-shouldered hawks that
like to fly around overhead, often calling loudly, pretty reliably.

    Good Birding,
