    I hope it's genetic. There's one much like the pic in the Marin civic 
    center lagoon, and a handsome brown one in Lake Merritt with a cream 
    tam-o-shanter. These ducks act like their fellows - just as active, and 
    their heads don't seem heavier than normal, so it's not unreasonable to 
    believe the topknot is full of feathers and not a growth of some kind....
    
    Anyone know what causes this?
