On Sunday, Feb. 26, I spotted 8 Wood Ducks (4 adults and 4
juveniles) swimming in the main creek (San Pablo Creek) that enters
the San Pablo Reservoir. Please note that you need an EBMUD trail
permit to hike the trail leading to this spot.

    Details to finding this location:
From Orinda, take Camino Pablo road north (this road eventually
becomes San Pablo Dam Road. At the Bear Creek Road intersection
(there's a stop light), turn right and park in the first dirt lot on
the left. (50 feet NE from the Bear Creek and San Pablo Dam Road
intersection). Stay on the main trail heading north (don't take the
trail across the steel bridge--though this is a nice diversion on the
way back). This trail will pass the EBMUD offices. About 1/4 mile
beyond, you will notice the Bear Creek meandering close to the trail.
Start looking for the Wood Ducks, I spotted them swimming up stream
from this spot on the trail.

Botanical highlights: The Western Leather Wood (Dirca occindentalis)
was finishing flowering at the start of the trail and the Trilliums
    (T. chloropetalum), and Service Berries (Amelanchier alnifolia) were
    just beginning to bloom.
