This morning, between 7 a.m. & 8 a.m. I spotted & photographed the winter male Longtailed Duck (in near dark lite) under & around the south end of the Embarcadero St. bridge at Jack London Estuary Park. During the whole hour it never let a Canada Goose it was vigorously following get more than a few feet away. A friend of mine said something about "lost mate" behavior. Anyone familiar w/ the Longtailed Duck breeding habits & know if this is a possibility?
There were also a few Greater Whitefronted Geese & Snow Geese on the empty lot across from the boat ramp next to the Embarcadero bridge.
