     Thanks to a timely visit to my birding friend Tim Daly in Berkeley, I =
    was able to watch several CEDARWAXWINGS, as they devoured quite a few =
    persimmons at very close range (20 -25 feet). It was a joy as several =
    males and females allowed us to compare coloring for quite some time. In =
    a comical moment, on WAXWING had her head so far in a persimmon, she =
    didn't see the other birds fly away in a response to me appearing in =
    the window. When she realized she was the only bird in the tree, she =
    scattered like a sleeping partridge startled into flight by a golden =
    retriever. =20

    We were also surprised by a visit from a male and female RED SHAFTED =
    FLICKER, eating off the same persimmon tree. The interaction of these =
    birds and several ROBINS made for a very enjoyable rainy day. Thanks =
    Tim.

    Good birding
