I decided to see how many duck species I could find in Alameda County today
Dec. 7, 2005. Started at Lake Merritt in Oakland. I refound the male
Tufted Duck in the same previouly reported spot. Had 3 male Barrow's
Goldeneye and 1 Ring-necked Duck near the Nature Center. Many Mallards,
Canvasback, Greater and Lesser Scaup, Buffleheads, Common Goldeneye and
Ruddy Ducks. Then went to Aquatic Park in Berkeley where I saw the pair of
Hooded Mergansers on the middle pond without having to get out of the car.
Walked a short ways along the eastern side of the big pond adding
Red-breasted Merganser. Then on to the Albany Bulb where it took some
searching but I did locate the continuing male Eurasian Wigeon. Also added
Green-winged Teal, Pintail, Gadwall, Shoveler, and American Wigeon here.
The pullout along West Frontage Road just north of Point Emery still has
Redheads. Added Cinnamon Teal at Coyote Hills Regional Park in Fremont and
ended with Surf Scoter and 2 male White-winged Scoters at the San Leandro
Marina. 22 species of ducks for the day. 114 species in all.

Also of note, although not a duck, I found a Brant at the tip of Point
Emery in Emeryville. Probably the same bird that was previosly reported
behind the Sea Breeze Restuarant last week that was not there today when I
    looked.
