My wife and I went for a quick afternoon walk on the Hayward
Shoreline today. Not much to report--a few Ruby-crowned Kinglets, a
Warbling Vireo, bunches of sparrows, and plenty of shorebirds. She
headed back to the car, and I continued on to Frank's Dump. Frank's
had a set of Avocets and a set of Stilts, but nothing else. My wife
however, spotted on the hill above the parking lot, a kite sized
raptor being harassed by a bunch of crows. As described, it had a
striped belly, a white upper breast and throat, and black splotchies
on each side of the face. Sounds like a Peregrine Falcon to me, and
after looking at Sibley's and Stokes' guides, she believes it best
matches what she saw. Has anyone else seen a Peregrine at the
    Hayward Shoreline?
