Yesterday I saw a solitary white tailed kite
hover-hunting over the field across the street from
the Sybase building in Dublin, which would put it on
the south side of Dublin Blvd between Arnold and
Hacienda. That was at 6 pm. Today, again at 6 pm, I
took a look as I was driving past, and I saw three
WTKs flying over the field. One was hover-hunting and
the two others were flying aimlessly, then another
starting hovering. This was again at 6 pm.

About six weeks ago I saw three WTKs behaving
similarly in Shadow Cliffs in Pleasanton, about 3
miles away by flight. In that sighting, two of them
were engaging in courtship behaviors while the third
tagged along. I wonder if they're the same three.
Today there weren't any courtship behaviors though.

I find it curious that three WTKs are associating in
this way - my guess is they are juvenile, since you'd
think solitary adults would prefer solitude and mated
pairs would reject a third. I couldn't see if there
was any brown/rufous patch that would indicate a
    juvenile though.
