    Birds seen last Saturday - Aug. 6, 2005, in Pacheco (along Grayson Creek,
    between Center Ave & Pacheco Blvd, 7:30 - 8:15 am):

    GREEN BACKED HERON (1)
    MALLARDS (6)
    GULLS - Ringbilled (1), Cal Gull (1)
    MORNING DOVE (1)
    BELTED KINGFISHED (1 - female)
    BLACK PHOEBE
    WESTERN TANAGER (2) - see below**
    FINCH, house (50-75)
    SPARROW , ENGLISH (2)

    **The Western Tanager pair were great to see - interesting to watch also.
    They flew across the creek to dead branches of an elm. One dropped to the
    leaves below  to "forage"   while the other stayed above as the 'watch';
    after a few minutes they switched places & 'duties' - then they took off
    heading south down the creek! One of those 'wow' moments in my birding life.
    They were still in summer plumage.
    thanks,
