This week at Lake Merritt Wildlife Refuge & Lakeside Park in Oakland I had the following observations of note:
There are now 2 Green Herons in residence

The Ross' Goose is still present, near Bellevue east of Perkins. Good chance to study this species as the bird will allow approach to about 10'

Caspian, Forster's, and Least Terns have been present

A Peregrin flew around a highrise this morning at corner of Grand & Harrison

A pair of Western Gulls has 3 noisy juveniles following them around. They successfully breed on Island #1. I guess this pair consider themselves to be a colony, and Lake Merritt to have "Off-shore islands" (is this redundant? any islands on-shore?)

Cooper's Hawks are quite tolerant of people, and I got to within 12' of one adult perched on a rock in a small pond. She pretty much ignored me. There are 2 fledglings, crying continuously
