Clark,

That description of the swooping behavior sounds like an adult Cooper's 
Hawk in defense of its nesting territory. Did you or anyone else get a 
count of how many fledged from this nest? We've been tracking this nest 
and 7 others in the El Cerrito, Oakland and Alameda area to compare with 
the Cooper's Hawk Nesting Study we're doing in the Berkeley/Albany area 
as part of the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory project. About a one-third 
of our nests in the study area are inactive this year possibly because 
of the late rains. I had heard, incorrectly, that the Lake Merritt nest 
was inactive and was happy to hear differently. And yes, I'd love to get 
an e-mail of the photo you took
