Wednesday morning, as I drove east on Pinehurst Road in Contra Costa =
County, just below Skyline Boulevard, I nearly ran over a hen turkey =
standing in the middle of the road.  The bird didn't move at the =
approach of my car, and only after I slowed to a stop did it eventually =
move off and up into the canyon slope.
