The White-throated Swifts have returned again this year to nest under the
I-680 freeway that runs over Rudgear Road. It's always a little amazing to see
them speeding through the sky and then, like a shot, quickly zooming into the
tiny holes under the freeway, seemingly without putting on brakes. There are
also "swarms" of recently arrived Cliff Swallows in the same area that build
their mud nests along the edge of the freeway and under the bridge over the
canal each year. Two Northern Rough-winged Swallows were perched on an
overhanging utility wire long enough to allow good views and an accurate I.D. amongst
    all the Cliff Swallows.
