    Birders,

Along Del Puerto Road this morning we saw many WESTERN KINGBIRDS,
BULLOCK'S ORIOLES, ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHERS, LAZULI BUNTINGS, and
several HORNED LARKS, LOGGERHEAD SHRIKES, BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS, SAY'S
PHOEBES, and WESTERN WOOD-PEWEES. We also had GREAT HORNED OWL, ROCK
WREN, GREATER ROADRUNNER, CANYON WREN, and GREEN HERON. Our birdiest
stop was Deer Creek Campground (the epicenter of the big fire) where,
in addition to kingbirds, orioles, flycatchers, buntings, and
grosbeaks, we had HAIRY WOODPECKER, PURPLE FINCH, YELLOW WARBLER, and
    6+ PHAINOPEPLAS.

A pair of RING-NECKED DUCKS were floating in the first roadside pond
west of the Santa Clara/Stanislaus County line. A single LAWRENCE'S
GOLDFINCH was behind the store at the western terminus of Del Puerto
Road. A pair of WOOD DUCKS were circumnavigating the small pond a
couple of miles south of the store on San Antonio Valley Road.

At the highest point along Mines Road we had BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER. A
few miles closer to Livermore we stopped to watch a female Wood Duck
that was swimming in the creek accompanied by 11 chicks.
