Oh Joy! Two days ago while observing one of the few remaining handsome =
male golden crowns on my deck feeder in the Berkeley Hills, I saw a =
smaller, shy fellow approaching the feeder. Touch of yellow in the =
brownish head stripes, and what's this -- a white "ascot?" My books and =
more watching it through my binocs confirmed it -a white-throated =
sparrow. No biggie to experienced birders but to me the fulfillment of =
    a decade-long search which included a two-hour vigil at George's window =
    in Kensington and a confusing and all-to-quick glimpse in a neighbor's =
yard. So there you have it -- a belated 76th birthday present -- and a =
worthy solace for the sadness I always feel when the winter birds depart =
    for their breeding grounds.
