    Are their caterpillars on the oaks?  It's just a guess.  The cedar
    waxwings at the Mokelumne River Day Use Area below Camanche Dam flock to
    feed on the caddisfly hatches.  When the bugs are gone, so are the
    waxwings.

    A flock of cedar waxwings was feeding excitedly around 3 P.M. in my
    ancient valley oak in Lafayette.  I haven't seen them since December
    when they were enjoying my persimmons.  Does anyone know what they might
    be eating in the oak?  They appeared to be pulling at the immature
    leaves, making them shake.
