This morning, while working in the garden at our new (used) Martinez home, I, with naked eye noticed a hummer visiting the blossoms of our orange tree, to pick at insects or sip nectar I could not tell, what I immediatly noticed was a fairly bright red bill with a darker tip, definitely not caused by nectar discoloration, I was only about 10 feet away. The view was very brief, then it zipped away. I waited and saw it once more, again confirming the red bill easily seen without binos, I noticed no prominent eye-stripe (not all female Broad-bills have them), otherwise very similar to a female Anna's. Alas, i didn't, in all the excitement register any other details, I went to get the binos but did not see it again . Also unfortunately I had to leave shortly thereafter for a very important family commitment that would take the rest of the day. I have seen many of these in AZ & Mexico but because of the very brief, naked-eye views, I hesitate to say 100% its a Broad-bill. But what else
could it be? Has anyone ever seen red-billed Anna's? I know they've been recorded in March in So Cal, anyone have the history for Nor Cal?

We have 2 feeders, we will be watching them and the tree, i will definitely report any more sightings and open our garden to birders if we see it again.
