    Greetings birders,
I just got back from a short trip to the Martinez Shoreline to see if
the Long-tailed Duck had returned, since, on Saturday morning's visit to
the Shoreline he was nowhere to be found. Lo and behold, there he was again
in among the Scoters, the Scaups, and a pair of Western Grebes, floating
near the old Forrester wreck. The time was 9:30AM and the weather was clear
and warming, with the tide being 2 hours past low tide. The Long-tailed
Duck, without a long tail yet, appears to me to be starting to grow his
tail, while his bill has the yellow/orange coloration stripe and the white
    back as shown in Sibley's.

    Paul Brenner,
    Martinez
