Hi abd Happy New Year, all.
I too was down at Cesar Chavez Park (Berkeley
    Marina) yesterday--around 4:30 or so.
I spotted one of the burrowing owls (just south of
the northeast corner), who was hunkered down in the
frigid wind. I was a bit surprised at his (?) staying
put even when people, whether aware of him or not,
    came fairly close.
Just down from him were a number of willets, I
think--judging from size primarily, though they looked
more uniformly gray on their backs, wings, etc, than
Sibley would lead me to expect--and a few least
sandpipers, again, I think (they were a bit more
redish brown than the books show for winter). The
female long-tailed duck was swimming just off shore in
the same area, along with various others of the duck
    persuasion.
Over in the brushy/wooded area (on the west side,
just north of the kite-flying lawn and turnaround),
there was one fox sparrow among some golden-crowned
    and probably others.
Twas quite cold, but quite worth it!
