The Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow continued, as well as Clapper Rails (4)
and a poorly seen Sora. Also a Snow Goose has joined the goose flock, which
was mostly Cackling and White-fronted geese today, with a few large Canadas.

I stopped over at 12th street next to Lake Merrit after the Albany class,
and got a nice look at Travis Hails' Hooded Merganser x goldeneye. I
watched it trying to deal with some tough-looking mussels or other shellfish
that it had brought up, but never saw it swallow any. It seemed to
associate more with the Barrow's than Common Goldeneyes. Some of the
goldeneyes had started doing their head bobbing courting behavior.
