    Hi all,
Iron House Sanitary District near Oakley is indeed a very good place to hear
Black Rails but not see them, though I wouldn't say it is impossible if you
tried long enough. They call spontaneously at all times of the day during the
breeding season but I have only heard them in winter when they respond to the
"Grrrrr" alarm call. Even that can be hard to pick up if you don't know what you
are listening for as it is very unobtrusive, even if quite close.
