    Hi Everyone--

Yesterday 10/16, I led 8 folks on a GGAS-sponsored trip to the Stevens Creek
Trail of Mountain View Shoreline Park (Santa Clara County) from La Avenida
to Crittenden Marsh. Highlights were long close views of two SORA, three
(SOOTY) FOX SPARROWS digging in tandem, a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET showing us
what color his crown was, a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE sitting up after being so
elusive, hundreds of AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, at least 5 BROWN PELICANS, two
kinds of WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW (gambelii and pugetensis) singing very
different songs, and lots of GREEN-WINGED TEAL and RUDDY DUCKS. A few saw a
CLAPPER RAIL, but we all heard it. Total for the day was 65 species. A great
group, a great spot, and a great day to be outside. The Stevens Creek Trail
is reached from US 101 at the Shoreline Avenue exit (hard to spot amid all
the construction). From Shoreline, take La Avenida (straight ahead from 101
north, a right turn from 101 south) to its end. We walked 1.5 miles north
    from here.
