Today my first two backyard juncos appeared. I also have the other =
usual suspects reported, although different numbers, but no goldfinches. =
Yesterday was an unusual day. There were two hermit thrushes, first =
ruby-crowned kinglet of the season, and a yellow-rumped warbler. The =
migrants are arriving for the winter season in my Walnut Creek backyard.

Today I changed my brand of birdseed. I bought some which is a =
combination of sunflower, berries and dried fruit. Looks sort of like =
    trail mix.

In any case, the birds approve.

      A few moments ago I counted about 30 house finches, 4 chickadees, 2 =
oak titmice, 10 American goldfinches (at the thistle feeder), 3 =
goldencrowned sparrows, 1 white crowned sparrow, 6 California towhees, 3 =
house sparrows, 1 mourning dove, a scrub jay at the bird bath, and my =
first backyard junco of the season.

For those of you who stopped by to see the Harris' sparrow last year, =
I'll keep my eyes open and let you know if it reappears.

      Good birding!
