Winter is definitely coming, as the typical species are arriving in my yard.
    Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 10/9, Hermit Thrush - 10/3, Varied Thrush - 10/8,
    Cedar Waxwing - 10/2, Golden-crowned Sparrow - 9/24, Fox Sparrow - 9/23,
    Pine Siskin - 10/11. Also today (10/11) I had a White-crowned Sparrow,
which may seem common to many, but they are rare here in the Oakland hills.
Only the 5th sighting in the 13 years I have lived here. Also on 10/9 I had
a Black-throated Gray Warbler, only the 2nd sighting in my yard, last seen
in October 1994. I seem to have more species and higher numbers than usual.
