I went to a new park today, and while not a "hotspot," there were tons of
cranes there. There's a new East Bay regional park just opened called Middle
Harbor Shoreline Park. It is set in the most industrial setting. If you want a
sense of place where we live, check it out. There's a lotof hardscape, a sandy
beach, tidal flats, and dune restoration taking place. There's great vistas of
SF, the Bridges and our Oakland shipping empire.

I saw Say's and Black phoebes, Elegant, Caspian and Forsters terns, peeps,
plovers and godwits, lots of savannah sparrow s and a good place for
meadowlarks. I suspect it will be goose haven in a short time with all the grass. There's
interpretive signage with birds photos by yours truly and plans to create a
large tidal shallow water area with clean dredge spoils, planted with eel
grass. In a few years should be great.

I reached this area by taking 3rd St. from Jack London Square and heading
west, then follow the signs. Watch out for trucks! It will sure be an eyeful for
    out-of-towners.
