Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge
9 to 11 AM, 9 October 1999

Dr. Howard Cogswell was the trip leader for the Ohlone Audubon Society and friends. We saw 46 species this morning in the marsh near the NWR entrance. Kathy Robertson spotted one of two calling Clapper Rails at the bridge by the entrance road. We were thrilled to watch the clapper attack a live crab. The crab was about 4 inches in diameter and escaped after fighting off the clapper with its claws. Six Semipalmated Plovers were also spotted.
